• HORISAKI care guide

Horisaki hats are made to be worn and will last over time, both in design and craftsmanship.

If you take good care of it, while embracing its ageing, the natural change of texture and colour will contribute to its strength of character. How nature, usage and the passage of time imprint its appearance with patina is what makes it vibrant. Creating a more captivating story.

If you want to extend the story of your hat, there are a few things to keep in mind though.

    dust & dirt
Use a hat brush to remove it from the surface of your hat.

    lint, hair or dust
Use a small lint roller or a piece of tape to remove dust and debris from your hat. Wrap the tape around your hand, sticky side out, and gently sweep and dab across the surface of your hat.

    grease stains
Sprinkle some corn starch directly onto it and rub it into the stain gently. After 5-10 minutes, brush it away to see if it has absorbed the stain.

Use a gum eraser or clean makeup sponge and gently dab the stain (or smudge) to try to remove it. Mild stains can often be removed with a simple wet wipe, gently rub the stain and let it dry.

    clean the sweatband
If air drying the sweatband does not effectively freshen up your hat, you can wash it. Avoid getting water anywhere other than the sweatband. Use a toothbrush, water and a mild soap to gently scrub the sweatband. Carefully rinse the band and blot the hat dry.

    deep clean
To refresh your hat, sprinkle it with an absorbent powder. Choose a powder that is close to the color of your hat to avoid discoloration. Let the hat sit. Leave your hat for several hours to allow the powder to soak up dirt and oils efficiently. Remove the powder. Shake off as much of the absorbent powder as possible. Remove the rest of the powder by using a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush.

    Darker hats – Wheat germ
    White hats – Baking soda
    Beige/tan hats – Corn meal

Use a steamer or a pot of boiling water. Steam from the inside and help out with the gentle touch of your hand to rise to its original shape. Then let it cool off in the shape you want to keep it.

Waterproofing spray will increase the lifetime of your hat, keeping it more protected against rain. If your hat gets wet, make sure it dries in the shape you want to keep it in before applying waterproofing spray. Waterproofing is done on a completely dry piece.
